The Android version of popular photo sharing app Instagram was released yesterday and it has been downloaded more than 1 million times in its first 24 hours live. Click through to find out more about Instagram for Android.
Instagram is a free app that allows users to apply vintage filters to their photos and share them with friends. While there are a lot of photo filter apps on the market, what makes Instagram special is the social component of the app. Users can follow each other, “like” other users’ photos and comment on them.
Before the Android release, the iPhone version of the app had an estimated 25 million users. Because Android makes up more than 50% of the US smartphone market, that number is sure to start growing even more.
There are some differences between Instagram for Android and Instagram for iPhone. Android’s version lacks the “tilt shift” feature that allows users to add blur to their photos. However, it does adjust the Android camera’s aspect ratio within Instagram so users don’t have to re-crop their photos before editing.
