Thinking about rooting your Android? You might not have a choice if your phone is exposed to a malicious new program nicknamed “GingerBreak”. Click through to find out how this program works and what you can do to protect yourself.
The GingerBreak exploit has been added to the updated version of a known malicious Android program named Legacy Native. GingerBreak gains access to the infected phone’s root permissions without notifying or requesting permission from the user.
Once the app has been installed, the malware can communicate with an external server and launch packages without the user’s knowledge. The malware is being distributed in a fake version of Angry Birds space and has not been detected anywhere in the official Google Play store.
